BTA Kindlustus managed to maintain its insurance premiums in 2010

BTA Kindlustus collected €9.28 million (EEK 145.2 million) in insurance premiums in 2010.

“I am pleased that we managed to maintain our volumes on the non-life insurance market, which has decreased 10-12% for two consecutive years, at the same level as last year,” said the manager of the Estonian branch of BTA Kindlustus Olavi Laido. Now, in 2010, when the non-life insurance market is clearly stabilising and we are already hoping to see a small rise in 2011 here in BTA Kindlustus, all we can do is move forward and set ourselves new goals.”

“We launched several new insurance products last year and many of them are very successful,” added Laido. “Civil liability insurance increased the most on the Estonian non-life insurance market with 10.3%. This shows that people are becoming more knowledgeable. We also managed to increase our civil liability insurance premiums by a whopping 85% and entered this market very successfully.”

“The climate in the world as well as here in Estonia has been a major source of headache for claims handlers in 2010,” added Laido. “January and February at the start of the year as well as December in the end of the year brought many claims. Usually there are only two extreme winter months per year, but 2010 showed that we really do live up north. However, Estonian people have adjusted to the changing road and snow conditions, and have been very careful with their property. That said, this winter isn’t over yet.”

“The start of the new year has also been very interesting. There are serious political changes in the various corners of the world that have a direct impact on travel insurance. The climate has played new tricks everywhere in the world, but at the same time, car sales seem to be on the up in Estonia – looks like we’re in for a very interesting year in insurance.”
